F.A.Q.S

1)  What is your goal for each team?

Our goal is to create a competitive regional travel flag football program that develops the next generation of youth athletes into high performance, well trained, highly disciplined, and competitive football players while they grow and develop physically, mentally and emotionally.

The club is dedicated to the development of a player’s skill, competitiveness and character. The objective is to instill in each player the various skills and traits needed to succeed in life; long after a player’s competitive athletic career ends.

We will stress character development and promote an environment that emphasizes accountability and responsibility, increases self-esteem; all while guiding each player to reach their potential within a team environment.

2) Will any/all age groups have multiple teams?

We plan to have single teams for a given age group. It is possible that VXS teams will compete against each other if a tournament has a range of ages (i.e.: 10-12 yrs.). Players can and do move between teams throughout the year based on the judgment of the age group coaches for certain tournaments.

3) What are the expectations for each VXS Team to participate in tournaments?

Each individual age group coach will determine what tournaments they will attend throughout the year with consultation from parents and VXS Officers though all teams have mandatory participation in the Virginia Xtreme tournament held in April each year. Typically VXS teams will participate in three to six tournaments a season.

4) Tryouts - does VXS hold annual tryouts in every age group each year & when do they occur?

Yes, at the beginning of each season, typically in February/March, coaches will determine their roster needs for that season. At that time, coaches will hold evaluations by invitation only for select players. It is possible that players expressing interest at any time during the year may be offered workouts with a team. The player will be evaluated and informed what (if any) roster spots may be available on a team. While raw talent and athleticism is a component, a relentless commitment to working on fundamental skills and knowing ‘how to play’ the game are critical components to long term development.

5) How many players will each team carry?

VXS rosters will carry seven to eight full-time players with up to two to three additional practice players at the discretion of the coach.  Final decisions will be up to the coach regarding practice players.

6) How many practices per week will each team hold?

Final decisions will be up to the coach – Typically one or two times per week for one to two hours.

7) What is the estimated cost for each team?

Typical Spring/Summer team fees are $275 and go towards field rental fees, insurance, equipment, tournament and admin fees. This does not include travel expenses for any out of town tournaments.  The final cost depends on a few key factors set by that coach with input from his/her parents:

  1. The number of tournaments/leagues and fees for each.  Teams will typically play 6 to 8 tournaments from March to the January.

  2. The uniforms selected as well as space and equipment needs.

  3. Each Coach/Team decides how much fund raising each team will perform; which goes directly to the teams account.

  4. Each Coach/Team manages their own budget but funds are deposited and dispensed only through the VXS Treasurer with proper documentation.

  5. Team fees can be offset by fund raising activities performed by each team.

8) Do VXS coaches and administrators get paid?

Zero.  Leaders in VXS work only to share their knowledge of the game they love and for the satisfaction of serving the players and families involved in our program and the teams we compete with.  Appreciation and respect of their dedication and efforts are required by all parents and players choosing to participate on any of our teams.

9) Do coach’s players pay team fees?

Yes, they pay the same fee as everyone else does if they have a player on the team.

10) Do you perform background checks on your coaches?

Yes, all VXS head and assistant coaches have background checks performed annually.
